I moved into my permanent studio space in February 2013 and absolutely loved the idea of having a place that I could call my own and do whatever I wanted with it. The first part was deciding what I wanted to use for my flooring. There are so many options out there, that I couldn’t quite decide and setting on just one. So, I have used a number of different floor drops over the past year, and while they photograph really well, I was still looking for something more. I contemplated using pre-manufactured floors, but in the end, it just wasn’t quite my style. I wanted something more unique with more character, and something that just went with my style. After many hours browsing online, I finally found something I wanted to try. I wanted to make my OWN wood floor. So, here it is! In all of its glory
And, if you keep scrolling, I will tell you just how I achieved this look.
And, here is how I achieved the look, step-by-step……
1. I went to Home Depot and purchased the wood in a variety of widths (4″, 6″ and 8″), but bought them all in 8′ lengths.
2. I then had the nice gentleman at the store cut all of the pieces down to 4′ lengths. Not only did this help fit them in my car, but it saved me an extra step once I got home (well, actually it saved my husband the extra step).
3. Next I laid out each of the pieces and arranged them in the order that I liked.

4. Now was the time for the paint. I also got this at Home Depot and had it matched to my seamless paper. I only needed a small quart size can of paint. I used a roller brush and applied the first coat.

5. Once dry, I painted another coat.

And there you have it. I love how it photographs and am super happy with it. It turned out just how I imagined
